Sr. Staff Accountant Requirements: Skills Experience with advance Excel skills including PivotTables and VLookup Experience with intermediate/advanced Access skills including building databases, tables, and queries Strong knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to research, analyze, interpret and apply technical accounting Strong understanding of financial reports including profit & loss statements, balance sheet statements and cash flow statements Must have above average organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, and must be results-oriented Detail oriented, organized, able to multi-task, and meet tight deadlines, willing to work beyond normal scheduled work hours as necessary Ability to think independently and provide useful and constructive feedback Reliable, driven self-starter with strong analytical and problem solving skills Leader; staff mentor to others within the department Ability to manage and lead department projects and/or initiatives with minimal oversight Establishes, fosters, and maintains good working relationships with internal and external customers Experience Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance Minimum of 7 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in accounting and/or finance CPA or working towards a CPA a plus Claims industry experience a plus Private company experience preferred Great Plains experience required, QuickBooks experience a plus Job Responsibilities: Responsible for customer invoicing including billing, customer account reconciliations, AR monitoring and collections. As well as trend review and commentary Lead month end close activities for multiple entities which includes review & preparation of: account reconciliations, journal entries, accrual schedules, variance analysis & commentary as well as coordinating and reviewing the activities of others in the department Preparation of financial statements for multiple division heads, members and outside reporting obligations. Effectively communicate financial statement fluctuations, both balance sheet and income statement as it relates to prior year, budget and forecast, identifying root causes for variances and resolution of issues Working to improve processes through existing software, software enhancements, and/or new software implementation. Identify and implement ways to promote efficiency within the companys financial reporting process Assist in researching accounting issues. Write, revise, document, monitor and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and accounting positions. Serve as a backup to Staff Accountant and Accounts Payable. Understand the roles, tasks and responsibilities of each department staff and assist in mentoring and bringing efficiency to the department Prepare year end close and audit work papers Prepare and review bank reconciliations and may perform other banking activities including ACH initiation and bank reportings Working with other department staff and managers to review and provide support and commentary on operational performance, departmental performance and budget assistance.
