Duties: Under gerneral supervision, performs a variety of tasks associated with the receipt, storage, tracking and safekeeping of crime scene evidence and property, according to state and Federal regulations and rules of criminal procedure. Receives, stores and maintains crime scene and accident scene evidence to aid in the prosecution of criminal and civil cases; documents all handling of evidence and property; maintains chain of custody through effective documentation of all procedures, according to state and Federal regulations. Packages, stores and safeguards property and evidence; could be called to Testify in Civil and Criminal Court proceedings regarding evidence collected at crime scenes; enters and updates data into computer system, log books and case files. Conducts regular inventory of evidence room and property; organizes and maintains order in the property and evidence storage areas. Maintains procedures for the custody of handling of evidence; tracks statute of limitations and legal time frames and checks for compliance to regulations. Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the department by ensuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved. Maintain Certification from (T.A.P.E.I.T.) Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians. Primary hours: Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm. Occasionally called in to store or retrieve evidence during off hours. Minimum Standards & Essential Job Functions: Associate's degree in Accounting, Business or Public Administration, or a related field; AND two year's bookkeeping experience, preferably in law enforcement agency; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a security sensitive position. The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background investigation which includes credit history and polygraph exam. Must be bondable. Typing test required of 35 wpm before an application will be accepted. Required knowledge of Federal and state laws and rules for the storage, transfer and disposal of evidence and property; state rules of criminal procedure concerning evidence and property retention; and criminal justice and court procedures and protocols in Texas. Identifying, collecting, processing and preserving crime scene evidence; maintaining accurate evidence records and generating special and periodic reports; packaging and organizing numerous items of evidence in an orderly fashion for storage and retrieval Upon being hired required to obtain and maintain Certification from (T.A.P.E.I.T) Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians; must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Required training and skills in courtroom testimony. Required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. A vaild driver's license with a good driving record required. :
